Rambu Solo' (Funerals)



Toraja, who does not know the Toraja tribe, famous for the traditional rambu solo' (funerals) and rambu tuka (ceremonial thanksgiving ) along with the objects of tourism worldwide. Toraja tribe is a tribe that settled in the northern mountains of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its population is estimated at about 1 million people, the majority of the Toraja embraced Christianity, while the majority embraced Islam and animism known as Aluk To Dolo.
Tana "means any land, premises or place to stay. Toraja people prefer to call ourselves accordingly in the vocabulary of the local as "Toraya" which means "descendant of the King", "Great people" or "human Majesty." While people in the southern region (lowland) called the people living in northern areas this as "Riaja", referring to the "People who inhabit the mountainous regions".

RambuSolo 'is a ritual death Toraja society that aims to honor and deliver the souls of the deceased to the realm of the spirit, that is, back to eternity with their ancestors in a resting place. The ceremony is often called the consummation ceremony of death because the person who died had considered truly dead after the whole procession ceremony is fulfilled. If not, then the deceased person is only considered as the sick or weak, so it remains to be treated like everyone alive, ie put to bed and given food dishes and beverages even always talk to.



The highlight of the ceremony Rambu solo' are undertaken in a specialized field. In this ceremony, there are several series of rituals, such as the process of wrapping the bodies, affixing ornaments of gold and silver thread on the coffin, corpse decline to the barn to be buried, and the proposing of the corpse to its final resting place.



Moreover, in traditional ceremonies, there are many cultural attractions on display, including buffalo race. Buffaloes will be sacrificed in the race before slaughter. There are also staging some music and some dancing Toraja (ma'badong). Buffalo slaughtered by way of slashing the neck, with one swing, a characteristic of Tana Toraja society.
